Can't really fault the line up and intent. We got forward and actually tried to win, which is the main thing. Played some good stuff too.

Couple of really poor choices by Antonio (second one in particular was absolutely maddening and really selfish) and a terrible bit of keeping by Areola aside, we could easily have won that or been out of sight before they scored.

I see Aguerd got some pelters. Harsh. He's done so much more good than bad so let's give him a break, and I put the blame for the first goal squarely on Areola. He's looked really dodgy coming for crosses a few times in the past and they clearly realised they could put him under pressure. It's a weakness he needs to work on as it was a pathetic attempt at a punch and teams will be keying in on it.

We may be out of the cup but I am optimistic that if we carry on playing like that, with that sort of intent, that we will be absolutely fine in the league and go far in Europe.

Antonio has always been about Antonio, his own glory means much more to him than the team. Fucking cardboard cutouts ffs

He is not technically good enough to be greedy, someone like Ings will take a shot on when others are in space, because 9/10 times he's got every chance of scoring, whereas Antonio has 1/10 chance of scoring. You'd think he'd use his brain and look for the pass.

I can't wait till he fucks off with Moyes.

It would have been less painful, had we gone 3-0 down and scored a last second consolation goal.

I went into the match expecting to lose, but hoping for a shock, as always. After 65/70 minutes, my hopes were well up, all the way to believeing we could get past the cunts.

Aguerd has been so good for us. He is still the classy defender we've been coming to admire; just one of those days for him.

All about Europe and satying up, now.

If I was given a choice at the start of this season, I'd have gone for the European trophy over the FA Cup, so here's to even more chronic hoping.

The Bowen and Scamacca subs needed to be made on 65 minutes as Soucek and Antonio were fucked then, Moyes set up with the right team but fucked us again with too late subs!

Aguerd also had a nightmare last 20 mins, about 4 big mistakes back to back

Surprised that Moyes went with a strong line up.

Had our chances to win this. Frustrating when you see how open the FA cup is this year.

Antonio poor finishing and greedy not to square it to Benrahma late on.

How Soucek gets picked over Fornals in that AM slot i dont quite know. Fornals is better with the ball and works just as hard without it.

Agree with most of everything that has been written, especially Antonio.

1-0 up?

Put three up front and keep them on the back foot

Russ perfectly summed up! Agree 100% on Antonio I knew he would fluff his lines. Again. And the cross that went out for a through / has he got springs on the end of his boots?

Overall team performance was very good. To hold Manure until 75+ minutes and see all the big guns having to be rolled out told you the story of the game.

But no end product when it mattered.

Good post, agree with all of that except holding much hope at the Gayers, bad history with them

I’d snap your hand for a draw

I'm pretty sure Areola deliberately left the shot for the second goal. A bloody awful misjudgement if that's what happened.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Just to follow on - Actually, I think Moyes only mistake was not putting Downes on for Soucek and just telling him to sit on Caaemiro and nobble him. Don't let the cunt go anywhere without having a hand on him.

But hey ho.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I thought Joe Cole summed it up perfectly.

Between the two boxes we were excellent. But in both boxes lost the game. In our box defensive errors allowed them to score and at the other end it was so surprise that the lump of wood Antonio failed to take his chances.

I've had enough of Antonio. His final ball, his technique and his finishing is so far off what is required at that level that its now embarrassing. Yes, he runs the line well, holds it up pretty well, is physical and makes life hard for defenders. But that's what strikers from League 2 up do as standard. His first one on one my daughter jumped up and I jokingly said "Sit down, love". For him to take one touch too many and hit it straight at De Gea. I knew that when he went through to make it 2-0 he wouldn't square it or score. He's a fucking liability at the top level. A player that does the basics very well but when it comes to doing anything that requires a touch of quality he's seriously lacking. Antonio now needs to be kept as far away from the first eleven as possible. He is currently an absolutely terrible player. A fucking disaster. He has zero quality.

Bottom line is - If Ings plays we win. Simple.

On the positive side - We set up more positive and for the most part played on the front foot. We looked to move the ball forward quickly and some of our inter-play was really top drawer. Benrahma, Paqueta decent, Ogbonna, Emerson and Rice decent. I thought Fornals worked his socks off and involved in good inter-play but lacked a couple of final balls. I also thought Moyes subs were positive and at the right times. Good to see Scamacca back. Should've been 2 or 3 up when they scored.

Aguerd has a bad night but I still massively rate him. Unlucky for 1st goal but was at fault for the other two. His bad games will be rare.

A disappointing and frustrating night. But it does feel like something has clicked. I am much more confident going into Brighton game.

Thought we were better side for most of it but once they equalised I could only see one winner.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
It's a simple game. If you are under the kosh in the last 20 minutes what should you do?
Put 10 men in defence with 1 forward or leave 2 on the halfway line?

We do this EVERY FUCKING WEEK.

We just set ourselves up to fail. Leave 2 up and their team HAVE to reduce their pressing because they really dont want to be left with a man short on a break with 2 of our forwards. So it actually makes them LESS likely to score.

Thats why defensive football is a crap strategy. We hung on to a 1-0 lead because we didnt keep attacking, not because we defended a corner poorly. A corner they didnt have to get if we kept more players up front.

And he does this EVERY time with any top 6 side. Which is why he almost NEVER beats any of them.

this is a knackered Man Utd side that just won a cup in the weekend and managed the game properly by literally only working hard in the last 20 when they could be bothered.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Polar opposite to our performance last October where we was all over them in the last 20. At a time where their game was not together under a new manager though.

Where’s Lanzini?

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
If, before last night’s game, you had been asked to guess how many of Antonio’s two one on ones ( under pressure ) would have resulted in a goal most of us would have said none.

He did what he does so why the surprise. And incidentally even a really top poacher in the same circumstance would probably netted just one, not both, chances. We’d have to go back to Di Canio’s day for having confidence in our striker getting two out of two.

What a library Old Trafford has become, we were making all the noise. I thought we were much the better team for 70 minutes and Antonio showed why Ings was bought! Moyes is so slow with his subs to try and keep momentum, the top managers are much better at using them. What the fuck Nolan has on that tablet, he must have been talking to Scamacca for well over 5 minutes!!

JayeMPee 11:26 Thu Mar 2
Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
This chap Scamacca, how many millions did we shell out to make him our top scorer? If he can't do better than Antonio then we wasted every penny and I assume (hope) Ings will start Saturday.

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Yeh, another frustrating outcome.
Antonio blinkers on, Fornals and Soucek both doing a David mccallum. As already been said, shld ave bin 2 or 3 up in the 1st half.
Shame Ings was cup-tied.
The sweaty’s gotta try scamacca and Ings up front. Will be a good combination.
Im sure we’ll beat the Brighton piers and then the Holloway rd peeps.
Yamas!

Re: ⚽ Man Utd v West Ham - Official Match Thread
The sub of Bowen for Fornals was right at the time. United pushing forward, Bowen on the break was logical, problem is we sat back and couldn't get out. Something is going on with Scammaca, got criticism from his old agents this week, rumours of a move back to Italy. Possibly sulking.
